My General TM

When you activate the Cloud TM feature (part of the Doc3 PRO subscription version), an empty online translation memory named “My General TM” is automatically created. It is also possible to create and manage any number of other translation online memories that behave in the same way as My General TM. However, the default My General TM differs in that:

  • It is always listed at the top of the memory list.
  • This memory can be renamed at will, but cannot be deleted

My General TM memory is particularly suitable for translators who do not need to manage memories by client, brand, translation type etc., but just need to maintain one basic memory for all their projects.

When you create a new project, this My General TM is set by default as both source and target – if you don't change this setting, it will automatically keep this memory up-to-date for as long as you are actively translating.

Useful tips:

Don’t need to separate memory for individual jobs in your work, but still want to build a comprehensive common database?

  • When specifying a legacy project, accept the default setting of the Cloud Memory option, i.e. use your My General TM for precompilation, which will also store the memory segments newly created within this project.

Need to maintain separate translation memories for different project types? (Typically for different clients, brands or subject matters)

  • When specifying a new project, choose which memories should be used for pre-translation (there can be several) and which memory segments should be stored in the newly created memory (it can be an existing memory or a new empty memory, but only one)
